A Kendall County firefighter has been charged with theft and forgery in the transfer of $20,000 in fire district funds into his personal bank account.

Jeffrey Noss, 32, of the 2300 block of Sumac Drive, Yorkville, is charged with taking funds from three accounts of the Bristol Kendall Fire Department.

Yorkville police said Noss was the treasurer of the Bristol Kendall Fire Department Firefighters Association.

Bristol Kendall Fire Chief Michael Hitzemann said that Castle Bank in Yorkville this month notified the department that its Firefighters Association account was overdrawn. A subsequent investigation discovered that the Bristol Kendall Fire Department Memorial Fund and Fourth of July Fund also had been depleted.

Hitzemann said all of those funds are separate from operating funds gained through taxes for the fire district.

Hitzemann said the investigation found that Noss, a part-time firefighter and paramedic, had made several unauthorized withdrawals from accounts at the Castle Bank.

He said authorities “will make every effort to recover the missing funds.” Any money not recovered will be covered by the district’s insurance policy, Hitzemann said.
